2012 OUTREACH OPPORTUNITIES
2012 dates for elderly visits have been scheduled. If you are interested and able to participate, please let me know what your availability is. You can commit to one date or as many as you are able. It is much easier for me to schedule if you actually give me dates that you are able to attend rather than telling me that you can help “whenever there is an available slot open”. I will send a reminder post card or e-mail prior to the scheduled visit with further details if necessary. Please help make these outreach visits a success! The visits to the nursing home are very relaxed and a time for you and your dog to visit with the residents. Watch the PKC web-site and newsletters for additional 2012 programs. Contact Ronda to get on the schedule!

The kennel club was asked to participate in the “Weidner Extravaganza” on May 19th that was hosted by Washington Middle School. A drill team choreographed by Faith Beam and Nancy Geneva did their routine with the middle school band playing “Louie Louie”, “Hound Dog” and “Rock Around The Clock”. What good dogs we have to be able to do their “thing” on stage with a middle school band playing and stage lights shining on them and hundreds of people watching.
Thanks to these dedicated members and their dogs to take on this challenge!Sue Werner and Springer “Boomer”

Going to the Dogs
The Packerland Kennel Club building was filled with laughter, lots of smiles, and dogs of all sorts on April 22, 23, & 24. A group of 20 children from Aldo Leopold Elementary School attended a program titled “Going To The Dogs” at the Packerland Kennel Club. Thank you so very much to the club members that took time to attend the program and share their knowledge and dogs with the children. Topics that were covered included service dogs, safety around dogs, groups of dogs, puppies, responsible dog ownership, and obedience demonstrations.

The Outreach Commitee has found that not all of our members maintain current rabies vaccinations for their dogs brought to meet the public for outreach programs under the Packerland Kennel Club name. This is a concern for us ethically, legally, and from an insurance liability standpoint. While vaccinating your dog for rabies is an important aspect of responsible dog ownership, it is also the law in Wisconsin. “In order to comply with the provisions of Wisconsin Statutes [s.95.21 (2)] and Administrative Codes [S. ATACP 11.52], relating to the Statewide Rabies Control Program, the owner of any dog kept or exhibited in Wisconsin (other than a dog kept for educational or scientific purposes) shall have the dog vaccinated against rabies by a veterinarian at no later than 5 months of age and revaccinated within one year after the initial vaccination.” Effective May 10, 2008, any dog, over the age of 5 months, that participates in any PKC Outreach Program will need to present a copy of a current rabies vaccination certificate (not a tag) to either Ronda or Faith prior to participating in the program. This is a precautionary measure and will ensure that each dog representing Packerland Kennel Club has a current rabies vaccination in the event of an incident with the public. You can bring a copy of the rabies certificate directly to the program/event in which you are participating or you can mail/e-mail Ronda a copy to keep on file. These copies will be transported to every program/event so they are on-site while the dogs are present. Unfortunately, if we do not have a copy of the dog’s current rabies certificate, your dog will not be allowed to participate. Again, I do appreciate each human and canine that has participated in the Outreach programs in the past. We have certainly done an outstanding job of promoting canines and the Packerland Kennel Club, and will continue to do so in the future. If you have any questions please feel free to contact Faith. |
